Seed_drill
A narrow groove for sowing seeds into, made in a prepared seedbed with the corner of a hoe, rake or trowel, or pressed in with a straight cane.

After the drill, store everything away as it was before. Congratulate your family on a job well done, and if you'd like to learn more, visit a local fire station or emergency preparedness center.

If so, it's easy to drill a hole in most pots. Containers made of porous materials, such as terra-cotta, should be sealed before they're used as planting pots. For drilling, you'll need eye protection and a power drill equipped with a special bit.

The main element of the attachment is an aluminum drive cup coupled to the flywheel of the small engine. Another element is a rubber drive cone that fits into your electric drill.

Drill-A shallow furrow in which seeds are sown.
Drip irrigation-A water-conserving irrigation system of plastic tubing with small holes that allows water to drip out and reach the root zone of plants.

Seed Drill A device that holds seed and allows precise positioning of them at certain intervals. Used mainly in the farming industry. Useful though when sowing lots of small seeds like mustard when a wet finger just won't do.

Drill one larger hole on the side of the medium planter that will face the "back." This hole should be large enough for the end of the pump cord to go through.

Drill a hole in the side of the tub to run 1/4 inch tubing for the spray nozzle. In another water proof container, put a submersible pump on a timer. This is the reservoir that will hold the nutrient solution.

DRILL: A shallow furrow into which seed is sown.
DRIP IRRIGATION: A trickle irrigation system. Highly recommended for soaking the soil well. Used where water sources are limited.

Drill holes in the bottom of the container. Fill with moistened bedding. Add peat moss or leaf mold to increase water retention. Mix in a couple of handfuls of soil that the worms need for grit.

Drill 4-8 small holes into the cap of the plastic bottle. If you want it to drip slower use less holes, faster use more holes. Don't make holes that are too small, they will become clogged up by debris.

6. Drill holes through your timbers and pound long spikes or pipes through the holes and into the ground. A minimum of 18 inches pipe length is recommended; longer pipes may be needed for stability for higher terraces.

The drill contains three coulters, placed in a triangular form, and worked by brushes, with cast-iron nuts, sufficient for one horse to draw, and one man to attend to.

Next, drill a ½" hole through the top layer of both pieces of bamboo. On the longer piece of bamboo, drill the hole just below the top growth ring. On the smaller piece, drill the hole roughly in the center.

Through pre-drilled holes bolt together the cross plate into the two upright posts on either side. Four battens are placed across the top to brace the arch and also for the vine to grow over.

4. After you've drilled all of the necessary holes, decorate your wooden pieces with paint or wood stain.

Press the drill firmly into the container and then drill through the container in a single motion.

Sow the seeds in drills and cover them with half an inch of soil. If sowing early a few bushy twigs laid along the drills will keep the seeds warm and induce germination.

Always water seed drills before and after sowing, and keep the ground moist until the seeds have germinated.

If flower buds are drilled with small holes, rose curculio (Merhynchites bicolor) may be the culprit. A weevil, it chews into buds to feed or lay eggs. Larvae gnaw the bloom as they develop, then drop to the ground to pupate.

Post and Chain
Drill a hole through one end of each of four sturdy wooden stakes or lengths of pipe. Drive one stake or pipe in each corner of the tree bed, then loop rope or chain through them.

Take the upward facing cups and drill several small holes in the bottom of each cup. Fill the drilled cups all the way to the top with potting mix and return them to their original position.

Landscape timbers should have holes drilled through them, so that a piece of steel re-bar (used in concrete work) can be driven through all timbers, and into the ground.

In the bottom of the bin, drill about a dozen holes, each about ¼ ' wide (for the bin to drain).
Place a layer of fine nylon mesh to the bottom of the bin. (this keeps the worms from escaping.)
Put a tray beneath the bin to catch any drainage.

Drill about four to six quarter-inch holes in each lid.
If possible, line the bottom of each container with a coarse fiber mat made of coir or something similar to the material inside a furnace air filter.

Use a small bit on a drill or dremel to pierce holes around the traced hole. Do not use large bits or you will break the gourd. Continue to drill small holes until you can break the cork opening out.

Create your water distribution hose by drilling several small holes in a piece of irrigation tubing cut to fit the bottom of the trough. Connect one end of the tube to one of the fittings on the inside of the trough.

They also sell an auger drill bit that will fit on the end of your drill to make the planting holes.

Drill a very small hole right in the middle of the pipe cap. You might have to experiment a little with the size of the hole you need, but make sure you start with a very small hole. I'd start with 1/16".

If not, make them by drilling additional holes. It might be advisable to add an inch or two of gravel to the bottom of the container, to insure adequate draining of water and drying of the soil between waterings.

By drilling holes into the bottom of the container this allows for proper drainage. For pots this size a hole about ¾ inch in diameter is probably sufficient.

If it's not possible to drill holes in the bottom of a container, put a layer of pebbles on the bottom and then place plants in plastic pots inside the container. Be creative! ...

Drill 1-to 2-inch diameter holes 12 inches deep in the soil throughout the tree canopy and beyond at 18-inch spacing. Fill the bottom of each hole with recommended rates of dry fertilizer and then top off the holes with compost.

Alternatively you can get a rechargeable drill and drill a hole in each stem at an angle and pour in some round-up or zero. The plants will slowly draw up the poison. It is a labour intensive way to do it, but it should kill them in one go.

Holes should be drilled in the bottom piece of the planter for drainage. Also cut holes in the plastic over the holes. Wheels can also be attached for ease of movement.

If the pot you select doesn't have enough drainage holes, make sure to drill at least one "good-sized" hole for every gallon of soil used.

Test Garden Tip: Drill-attachment models are best used with corded drills. If your drill is battery-operated, be sure that it has at least 18 volts of power.

Once your drainage holes are drilled, shred newspaper and put it in the bottom of the container until it is several inches deep. Moisten the paper, but do not make it so wet that water is dripping from it.

So many green elements in this home are unseen, such as cellulose insulation, recycled from newsprint, which was blown into the existing walls through small holes drilled in the wood paneling.

Get those seeds out of the greenhouse and into drilled holes in the veggie patch. Sow vegetables, such as broad beans, early peas, carrots, spinach, beetroot and leeks when spring is in the air.

Aeration equipment--the right kind--has hollow tines that pull ½" to ¾" plugs of soil from your lawn, boring down as much as 6" deep, drilling several inches apart. The benefits can be immense.

It will probably not eliminate decay or be of any other help to the tree and may break the natural decay barriers. Do not drill holes in cavities to drain water from them. Drilling breaks decay barriers allowing decay to spread.

There is no cure or prevention for this condition. Water infected trees deeply once a week during dry spells. Drilling holes 8 to 12 inches below the fluxing area relieves sap pressure but this is not a recommended treatment.

Four holes in a large pot are ideal. More holes can be drilled if needed. Place a piece of broken clay pot, or wire ball over the holes to keep soil in the pot from packing around the holes and reducing drainage.
